7/- Mr. "ullin admits that he visited the flat on the

dates and at the times stated but he emphatically denies

that the slightest impropriety was offered by himself

to Mrs. Xavier on either occasion. In order to account

for Mr. Xavier's notion in the matter he puts forward

the following suggestion:-

Mr. Xavier had admittedly kept as a paramour at

the flat an Hurasian woman known as Jeannie,"

who

was known to Mr. Bullin as he had given her clothes

for her brother, who was in needy circumstances.

Severed

This woman hadsevered all connection with Br. Xavier

their

about a year ago, but the fact of them having lived

together was known to Mrs. Xavier. Mr. Bullin el-

loged that an Overseer in the Public Works Depart-

ment used to visit this woman at the flat

for

proper purposes, and he suggested either that Mr.

Xavier had heard of this or that he had had his

suspicions aroused through notiwing in the flat

the clothes given by Mr. Rullin; with the result

that Mr. Xavier warned his wife to report at once

if any Inspector visited the flat. Consequently
